This statement might sound a little controversial but I strongly believe in it and defend it:

"No one does anything unless they get something out of it."

Wow! Sounds ...like a pretty cynical statement, right? But I don't think of it that way.

Yes, people can do something for totally selfish reasons and for personal gain but I'm really talking about doing something that appears selfless and generous when doing something for someone without expecting the recipient to do anything in return.

Why do we do these types of things? I contend we do it because it makes us feel good, at the least!

Humor - What is it good for? Absolutely nothing??? No, that's the Edwin Starr song, "War" from 1970.

We all know that humor is important in our ...lives for lots of reasons. Laughing helps us relax and release tension. We forget about our troubles for a period to not stress so much. It can create connections and improve our relationships.

But, humor can also be destructive and harmful. Jokes at the expense of another person's feelings aren't worth it, even if they're intended to be "good natured". What seems "good natured" to one person could be emotionally devastating or traumatic to another.

So, let's focus on and embrace the humor that doesn't come at the expense of another person.

Let's laugh and enjoy life!
